There’s nothing more frustrating than checking your security camera footage only to find it completely blocked by spider webs.

Or worse, waking up to dozens of motion alerts on your phone—all triggered by a spider building its web right in front of your lens.

This is an incredibly common problem that affects thousands of homeowners with outdoor security cameras.

Spider webs don’t just obstruct your view—they cause false alarms, drain your battery faster, and basically render your security system useless when you need it most.

The good news is that you can prevent spider webs on outdoor security cameras with some straightforward methods.

You don’t need expensive equipment or professional help. Understanding why spiders are attracted to your cameras in the first place makes all the difference in keeping them away for good.

How To Prevent Spider Webs On Outdoor Security Cameras (Step-By-Step)

Before we jump into solutions, let’s clear up a common misconception.

Most homeowners believe spiders are attracted to security cameras themselves, leading them to constantly clean webs without addressing why spiders keep returning to the same spot.

Spiders aren’t interested in your camera—they’re hunting insects drawn to your camera’s warmth and LED lights, making it prime real estate for web-building.

According to Cornell University entomologist research, spiders build webs where prey congregates near light sources. When you remove the food source (insects), you naturally remove the spiders. One homeowner documented reducing false alarms from 47 per month down to just 3 by applying these principles.

The most effective way to prevent spider webs on outdoor security cameras is to use a combination approach. Here are proven methods that work in real-world conditions.

1. Apply Slippery Coating To Camera Housing

Start by applying a thin layer of silicone spray or Teflon-based lubricant around your camera housing to create a slippery surface that prevents spiders from anchoring their silk threads.

Spiders need friction to attach their webs, and slick surfaces make web-building nearly impossible.

This method is highly effective because it addresses the physical mechanics of web construction.

Apply the lubricant to the mounting bracket and outer casing, being extremely careful to avoid getting any on the camera lens itself as this will blur your footage.

Reapply every two to three months or after heavy rain, as weather conditions can reduce the coating’s effectiveness over time.

2. Adjust And Reduce Camera Lighting

Modify your camera’s LED lights and infrared illuminators since these attract insects, which in turn attract spiders looking for their next meal.

If your camera settings allow it, reduce the brightness of these lights or adjust the angle so they’re not creating a beacon for bugs.

Many modern cameras offer the option to switch to yellow-toned lighting, which is scientifically proven to be less attractive to insects than white or blue-spectrum lights.

You can also schedule your lights to only activate during specific high-risk hours when you actually need surveillance, rather than having them on continuously throughout the night when spider activity peaks.

3. Establish Regular Weekly Cleaning Schedule

Implement a consistent weekly cleaning routine using a soft microfiber cloth or small brush to wipe down your camera housing and lens area.

This prevents spiders from establishing permanent webs in the first place, as they strongly prefer undisturbed locations for building.

Consistency matters far more than intensity—a quick one-minute weekly cleaning is more effective than occasional deep cleaning sessions every few months. Clean during daylight hours when spiders are less active and easier to spot.

Remove any web anchors, egg sacs, or debris you notice around the mounting area, as these indicate spiders are scouting the location for future web construction.

4. Use Natural Spider Repellent Sprays

Create an effective natural barrier by mixing 10-15 drops of peppermint essential oil with one cup of water in a spray bottle and applying it around your camera housing weekly. Spiders are highly sensitive to menthol compounds found in peppermint and will actively avoid treated areas. Apply the mixture to the mounting bracket, surrounding walls, and eaves, being careful never to spray directly on the camera lens or internal components.

Other effective natural alternatives include citrus-based sprays made from lemon or orange oil, and eucalyptus oil solutions.

Some homeowners report excellent results placing a flea collar around the camera’s mounting bracket, as the chemicals that repel fleas also effectively deter spiders from the area.

5. Manage Surrounding Landscape And Vegetation

Trim back all trees, bushes, ornamental grasses, and climbing vines that grow within two feet of your security cameras, as these create natural highways for spiders to reach your equipment.

Spiders use vegetation as bridges and pathways to access elevated locations, so eliminating these routes forces them to cross open space, which they generally avoid.

Pay special attention to branches that touch or hang near your camera housing, as these are prime spider access points. Maintain this clear zone through regular landscape maintenance every few weeks during the growing season.

Additionally, remove any debris, woodpiles, or clutter near your cameras that might harbor spider populations looking to expand their territory upward toward your equipment.

Why Are Spiders Attracted To Your Security Cameras?

Understanding spider behavior helps you prevent webs more effectively.

Security cameras offer three things spiders need for survival: warmth, food, and shelter.

Cameras equipped with infrared or night vision capabilities generate heat as they operate. While this heat isn’t significant to humans, it’s very attractive to spiders, especially during cooler evenings.

The consistent temperature around the camera housing provides an ideal microclimate.

The LED lights and infrared illuminators on security cameras draw insects like moths, gnats, and small beetles.

These insects become easy prey for spiders. Research shows that spiders can detect light sources even though their eyesight is relatively poor.

They’ve learned that areas near lights consistently provide food, so they build webs in these locations.

Your camera’s mounting location is also naturally appealing. Most people install cameras in elevated, sheltered positions under eaves, on walls, or on poles.

These spots protect spiders from ground predators and harsh weather while giving them a strategic vantage point to catch flying insects.

The process creates a cycle: your camera’s lights turn on at dusk, insects arrive within hours, spiders notice the abundant food source and build webs, those webs move in the wind and trigger motion sensors, resulting in constant false alerts.

Each element feeds into the next, which is why addressing just one factor often isn’t enough for long-term prevention.

Long-Term Prevention Methods For Spider-Free Cameras

Long-Term Prevention Methods For Spider-Free Cameras

Sustainable spider prevention requires ongoing maintenance rather than one-time fixes. Here are proven long-term strategies that keep your cameras clear for months.

1. Create A Consistent Weekly Maintenance Routine

Establish a dedicated weekly maintenance schedule by setting a phone reminder to inspect each camera every seven to ten days at the same time.

During each check, wipe down the camera housing with a microfiber cloth, carefully inspect for signs of web anchors or egg sacs forming in corners, and reapply your natural repellent spray to maintain the protective barrier.

This consistency is crucial because it prevents spiders from ever getting comfortable enough to build permanent webs or establish breeding grounds near your equipment.

Weekly maintenance takes far less time than dealing with the aftermath of full spider infestations and ensures you catch any spider activity before it becomes a persistent problem that requires more aggressive intervention.

2. Optimize Camera Motion Detection Settings

Take full advantage of your camera’s built-in smart features by customizing motion detection zones through your camera’s mobile app or web interface.

Most modern security cameras allow you to define specific areas within the camera’s field of view that will trigger alerts while ignoring others.

If a spider repeatedly builds webs in one corner of your camera’s view, adjust your detection zone boundaries to exclude that specific area from motion monitoring.

Additionally, reduce your camera’s motion sensitivity settings so that minor movements like swaying spider webs or windblown strands won’t trigger false alerts, while significant motion from people, vehicles, or potential intruders still activates notifications.

Finding the optimal balance requires some experimentation over a few days, but it dramatically reduces nuisance notifications.

3. Upgrade To Spider-Resistant Camera Housing

Consider investing in weatherproof housings specifically designed with spider prevention features if you’re dealing with persistent spider problems in your area.

These specialized protective enclosures feature smooth, curved surfaces manufactured without the crevices, corners, and textured areas that spiders naturally prefer for anchoring their silk threads.

Look for housings with sealed edges and minimal gaps where spiders might gain access to build webs inside the protective casing.

While these spider-resistant housings cost more initially than standard camera enclosures, they provide substantial long-term relief and can significantly reduce the time you spend on maintenance.

Many models also offer improved weatherproofing that protects your camera investment from moisture damage that could occur when spider webs compromise factory seals.

4. Schedule Professional Pest Control Treatments

For severe or recurring spider infestations that resist DIY prevention methods, engage professional pest control services to treat the exterior perimeter of your home with commercial-grade products specifically formulated to deter spiders.

Licensed technicians can apply long-lasting barrier treatments around your home’s foundation, eaves, and camera mounting areas that create an invisible protective zone spiders won’t cross.

Quarterly professional treatments maintain this barrier throughout changing seasons when spider populations naturally fluctuate, with peak activity typically occurring in late summer and early fall.

Professional services use EPA-approved products that are more effective and longer-lasting than consumer-grade options, and technicians can identify specific spider species in your area to customize treatment approaches for maximum effectiveness while ensuring treatments won’t damage your camera equipment or void manufacturer warranties.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How Often Should I Clean My Security Cameras To Prevent Spider Webs?

You should clean your outdoor security cameras every seven to ten days for optimal spider prevention. Weekly cleaning stops spiders from establishing permanent webs while maintaining clear video quality.

Use a soft microfiber cloth or small brush during daylight hours when spiders are typically less active.

If you live in heavily wooded areas or regions with high spider populations, consider increasing cleaning frequency to twice weekly during late summer and early fall when spider activity peaks during mating season and web-building is most intense.

2. Do Natural Repellents Really Work On Outdoor Cameras?

Natural repellents can be quite effective when applied consistently and correctly. Peppermint oil diluted in water (10-15 drops per cup) creates a barrier that spiders actively avoid because they’re sensitive to menthol compounds.

Apply the mixture around camera housing weekly, being careful never to spray directly on the lens. Citrus-based sprays and eucalyptus oil work similarly.

The main limitation is that rain washes away natural repellents, requiring reapplication. Studies and homeowner reports show approximately 70-80% reduction in web formation when using natural repellents as part of a comprehensive prevention strategy.

3. Will Turning Off Camera Lights Stop Spiders Completely?

Turning off your camera lights will reduce spider activity significantly but won’t eliminate the problem entirely. Lights attract the insects that spiders feed on, so removing this attractant helps considerably.

However, spiders are still drawn to the warmth your camera generates and the sheltered mounting location it provides. The trade-off is that disabling lights reduces your camera’s night vision capabilities.

A better approach is to schedule lights to activate only during high-risk hours or reduce brightness to the minimum effective level rather than turning them off completely.

4. Can I Use Insecticide Spray Directly On My Security Camera?

Never apply insecticide spray directly onto your security camera. These chemicals can damage plastic housings, corrode metal components, leave residue on lenses that ruins footage quality, and potentially void your warranty.

Instead, treat surrounding surfaces like walls, eaves, and mounting brackets where spiders travel, staying at least six inches away from the camera itself.

Spider-specific repellents work better than general insecticides because they’re formulated for prevention rather than killing. If you must use chemical treatments, apply them with a cloth to specific areas rather than using aerosol sprays near electronic equipment.

Conclusion

Spider webs on security cameras are frustrating, but they’re not an unsolvable problem.

The key is understanding that spiders aren’t targeting your cameras—they’re simply following their food source to a warm, sheltered location that happens to be where you mounted your equipment.

The most successful approach combines multiple prevention methods. Regular weekly cleaning, natural repellents like peppermint oil, lighting adjustments, and proper landscape management work together to create an environment where spiders won’t build webs.

Homeowners who implement these strategies typically see dramatic reductions in both web formation and false motion alerts within the first month.

The benefits extend beyond just clearer footage. You’ll experience fewer false alarms, better battery life, improved night vision quality, and greater peace of mind knowing your security system is actually securing your property rather than documenting spider activity.

Start with the easiest method that fits your situation. If you’re short on time, begin with a simple peppermint spray and weekly cleaning routine.

If false alarms are your biggest concern, adjust your camera’s motion zones and sensitivity settings first. Build from there as you learn what works best for your specific circumstances.

Your security cameras are too important to let spider webs compromise their effectiveness. With consistent effort and the right combination of prevention methods, you can keep your cameras clear and functional year-round.

Anyone who has battled a flea infestation knows the struggle. And one of the biggest questions on their minds is often whether, ‘do I have to wash clean clothes after applying flea bomb?’”

It’s totally understandable to feel worried your belongings might have been contaminated and required extra cleaning.

But is it compulsory?

Many people think you need to. However, that’s not always necessary. There are ways you could flea bomb without adding to your laundry loads.

Do I Have To Wash Clean Clothes After Applying Flea Bomb?

There are two scenarios:

If your clean clothes were left exposed after a Flea Bomb, you should give them a nice wash.

Wanna know why?

Flea bomb is such an explosive pesticide that releases a fog that fills the space to eradicate fleas. This does leave residues that may have settled on contacted fabrics or surfaces during the treatment.

So washing it off not only helps keep your clothes smelling fresh but also ensures that they are safe to wear without any risk of skin irritation or chemical exposure.

Of course it isn’t mandatory!

In my view, it is a prudent measure, especially in cases of severe infestations or if you have sensitive skin.

Better still you can save yourself the hassle by simply wrapping the pristine clothes pre-flea bomb, as opposed to washing them after application —scenario number 2.

I will throw more light on this on the latter stage of this article.

Having addressed the question of washing clothes, let’s delve into other crucial details that can help you effectively use a flea bomb to combat this infestation.

Using Baking Soda To Kill Flea

Credits: FotoHelin/Shutterstock

I want to get this one out of the way first:

The use of baking soda is NOT an option.

Why?

I don’t find it an effective solution for eradicating fleas, especially in extreme cases.

Nevertheless, people would prefer this approach because it is an eco-friendly and non-toxic method that can still kill fleas.

I hope you are prepared to arm yourself with patience because baking soda needs at least 24 hours to work its magic.

Also you will have to sprinkle it in and around the infested areas —and only upon contact— will it zap those fleas to death.

So what would you do?

Let me guess: moisturize your infected pet with some jar of baking soda, and then what? Let it sit for 24 hours?

Hell no!

I would rather have a flea bomb!

It is the best way to declare war on these pesky blood-suckers and stop this endless circle of torment.

How To Apply Flea Bombs Effectively And Safely

I suppose you are fed up to the teeth of these tiny vampires feasting on your blood and leaving behind an army of itchy, red rebellions on your/pet’s skin.

… this is something I can relate to.

Each bite feels like a microscopic mosquito that has decided to turn your body into a personal buffet.

The itching is maddening, a constant, irritating drumbeat that drives you to distraction. It’s as if your skin has been invaded by an invisible enemy, launching a full-scale assault on your sanity.

NO one should condone this madness!!!

Which is why I have prepared a comprehensive step-by-step guide on how to perform a SAFE and strategic flea bombing.

1. Preparation Is Everything

Don’t rush into it!

You can’t just grab a flea bomb and spray it around like crazy. It’s like trying to put out a fire with a water gun – you need the right tools and strategy.

There are essential steps you’ll need to take first:

1. Figure Out How Much Ground You’ll Need To Cover

Just like choosing the right paint for your walls, selecting the right flea bomb depends on the size of the area you need to cover.

And while one bomb per room is often enough, you might be able to get away with fewer if you strategically place them in hallways with the room doors open.

You will most likely get this Intel on the product label. So ALWAYS read the instructions before purchase.

2. Schedule For Flea Bomb When Everyone Is Away.

Pick a day and time that works for everyone in the family, including your pets.

This is due to the fact that Flea bombs contain chemicals that can be detrimental to your health.

Trust me, you don’t want anyone in there inhaling this toxic mist.

The label also stated how long you will be out for. So make sure you check that.

3. Close The Windows, Open The Doors And Drawers Of The Infected Rooms.

Declutter those areas providing hidden heavens for fleas. You want to let this fog access as many infested areas as possible.

While doing so, it is important to remove any eating utensils, food, small appliances, and crockery.

It will be much easier that way than cleaning them after the flea bomb.

Cover up any valuable accessories, your tables, countertops, and electronics with sheets or plastic tarps to avoid hearing stories that touch the heart.

And lastly, switch off the lights and disconnect any non removable electrical devices. Flea bombs can be a fire hazard.

2. Deploy The Bomb!!!

Most homeowners vacuum and clean their house prior to the treatment.

Is it really that necessary?

I don’t see the need for it. If anything, I would do so afterwards.

However, what I would suggest is doing your dirty laundry and bagging the clothes to avoid exposure.

Next is to detonate the area!

1. Position The Flea Bombs On Plastic Bags In The Targeted Area And Activate

If you are flea bombing multiple rooms, you might want to activate the ones in the furthest rooms and work up your way to the nearest exit .

That way, you could avoid extensive exposure.

2. Time To Play A Cleaner: Operation To Wash The Entire House

After the mist must have cleared, certainly chemical residues from this pesticide will sit tightly on the carpet, doormats, furniture, and other exposed surfaces.

Having said that, you should avoid making direct contact with any of these exposed items without giving them a proper wash.

Put on a pair of gloves and vacuum the detonated areas.

Remove beddings, curtains, blankets, pillows, and even stuffed toys and wash them.

NOTE: it is crucial to wash and dry beddings according to the flea bombs’ instructions.

You also want to clean the countertops in the kitchen and bathroom areas with your regular cleanser to remove any pesticides that settled on it during flea bombing.

Pay attention to your pet’s food bowl too. Wash it thoroughly with mild soap and warm water. After washing, dry it with a towel.

Your baby’s toys are also one to keep an eye on.

Children tend to put their toys in their mouths after picking them up from the ground. Therefore, wash them in a basin with mild soap and water. Rinse them and dry them.

Pro Tip: Now that you know your clothes need a thorough wash after flea bombing, let’s talk detergent—because not all soaps are created equal.

The right detergent doesn’t just rinse away pesticide residue; it obliterates it while keeping your fabrics soft and fresh. Don’t settle for mediocre cleaning power when you’re dealing with chemical residues.

While you are away from the home it is important to remove fleas from your pet so they do not bring them back in as soon as you return.

Ask your veterinarian about pills that contain nitenpyram —as these are effective for killing any adult fleas on your pet.

After application, give them a nice bath with a flea controlling shampoo. And that is it!

The Best Pest Control Company To Treat Fleas

Dealing with fleas can be a lot to handle. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, surely you might prefer to have someone else take care of the pesticide application.

There are many options out there, but the two professional exterminators that will ALWAYS come through for you are: Terminix and Orkin.

Termini has over 90 years of experience exterminating pests. They also offer nationwide service with free retreatment if the pests return.

Orkin, on the other hand, specializes in treating 20 types of pests (with fleas included), and offers instant online quotes, with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Wrapping Up

But how do you know you have fleas at home?

It would be easier if you had a pet around. Pets are susceptible to flea attacks. But don’t be fooled into thinking you’re safe from fleas just because you don’t have one.

Your home could still be their next venue, only they are easily spotted on pets.

So what are the telltale signs?

Fleas usually stick on dogs’ fur. They feast on their skin, take a piss, and breed there.

If you see your dog or car scratch or lick their body intensely, they could be suffering from Flea bites.

Check their underbelly, armpits, inner thighs, ears, or ears. Fleas can also be setting up camp in your carpets, furniture, and your pet’s favorite hangouts.

One of the biggest challenges homeowners face is dealing with cockroach infestations, PROPERLY.

Roaches are SO difficult to get rid of. It’s almost like they could survive the apocalypse.

Smash them; they will twitch and crawl with the last vestiges of hope to see another day.

Apply pesticides in their nest; it is only a matter of time before you spot yet another scavenger.

So how can you permanently get rid of these little stinky scuttling?

Well, I know of a SIMPLE yet effective method that Professional Pest Control Services use to wipe out the entire cockroach population in one sitting.

It is called the “Roach Clean out” method. And I’m going to show you (in this article) how you too can perform this procedure step by step.

But first, let’s discuss what ‘roach clean out’ is all about.

What Is Roaches Clean Out?

Roaches clean out is the taking of drastic measures to kill about 99% of the cockroach population in one single treatment. This service is usually performed by a professional exterminator.

But do you need to become an exterminator or have a license to apply this strategy?

Of course not!

Many homeowners indulge in this practice, without none of that.

On my part, I was very fortunate to learn this from a Pest Control Technician, who happened to be a friend.

Since my last application, I have managed to keep roaches, as well as other house pests 1,000 klicks away from my home. And so will you.

Why A Deep Roaches Clean Out Might Be Your Best Defense?

Little Bugs, Big Mess!

There are dozens of reasons why a deep cockroach cleanup of this magnitude is required:

1. Roaches Are Everywhere!

Let’s face it: there isn’t a single home without a cockroach or two.

Even the cleanest houses aren’t immune to roaches.

All I’m saying is your house could be harboring them. And the longer you wait, the more they multiply and become difficult to deal with.

2. Dinning WIth Roaches Is An Invite To Illness

You won’t necessarily fall sick or die if a cockroach climbs your skin.

They aren’t that dangerous. But make no mistakes these scavengers pose quite a number of health and sanitation risks that are detrimental.

They carry and spread various bacteria and pathogens from their bodies.

As they crawl through your home, they can contaminate food preparation surfaces, utensils, and even your food itself.

This can result in illnesses like salmonella, E. Coli, dysentery, food poisoning, or even triggering allergy and asthma.

3. Your Properties And Comfort Are At Steak!

Roaches have a voracious appetite and will feed on almost anything, including paper, glue, and fabrics.

Their presence can lead to foul odors, irremovable stains, and damage to household items.

4. 10x Quicker And More Effective

Maintaining a Roach-Free Environment after a HUGE infestation hit can be done differently.

Most people prefer to declutter and organize their living space; by applying repellents and sealing cracks and entry points.

This is a non-toxic method I talk about most of the time because it too is effective. However, it is not as potent as the use of chemicals in a roaches clean out.

5. It is Easy To Apply

You just need to buy the right product and apply.

That is it!

The pesticides won’t cost you anything, and application won’t take more than 10 minutes —at most.

You can quickly apply it and get on with your day.

The Ultimate Roaches Clean Out Solution That Wipes Out Roaches

The first step is to conducting a thorough inspection of your home to identify the extent of the infestation.

Look for signs such as droppings (small, dark pellets), egg casings, or musty odors in common hiding spots like kitchen cabinets, appliances, and cracks in walls.

These are areas where roaches are active.

Once you have located their nest, you can then proceed to apply any insecticide of your choice. Remember to follow the manufacturers’ application rules.

Most professionals use Pyrethroids: (e.g., permethrin, cypermethrin).

These are more of a synthetic version of a natural insecticide derived from chrysanthemums.

Oregano phosphates are also a popular choice, so as Neonicotinoids.

NOTE: These treatments should be applied ONLY in those areas with high cockroach activity, for the best result.

The chemicals work by disrupting the cockroaches’ nervous system, leading to their eventual demise.

And lastly, remember to wear a pair of glove and wash your hands afterwards.

Good luck!.

The Verdict

Oh! One more thing:

Make sure you are putting on a pair of gloves before proceeding with this roaches clean out procedure. These chemicals can be harmful to both pets and children, so you want to apply with caution.

As said, this is insanely powerful and extreme measure to eradicating these nuisance for good. But it too can be a double edge sword.

So if you are the type that wants a more natural and non-toxic way of going about it, I’d suggest you go check out our article on>>>How To Prevent Roaches.

If you are reading this article, then you must have heard of ‘kills Bed Bugs Plus’.

Maybe someone recommended it for your bug infestation, or you stumbled across it online.

How you’ve come to know about this product doesn’t matter.

The question is:

With much hype around this product, does it live up to its claims? Is it that one-time solution you’ve been SO eager to get your hands on?

Let’s find out!

What Is Kills Bed Bugs?

The water-based formulation is a non-staining application on mattresses, chairs, sofas, curtains, and carpeting.

Thus making it one of the most versatile and effective bug killers on the market.

Why You Need Kills Bed Bugs Plus

I think the “why” is pretty clear because it kills bed bugs efficiently.

But why is Kills Bed Bugs Plus’ effectiveness different or highly rated?

Let’s debunk that:

1. Offers Long-Lasting Protection For Peaceful Nights

One of the standout features of the Kills Bed Bugs Plus is the 12-week residual killing capability.

The sustained protection is exceptional.

The product used three active ingredients in one can –Pyrethrins, Piperonyl Butoxide, and Permethrin –to form a formidable knockdown.

It achieves a 98% killing rate, proving to be one of the very best bed bug killers for quick action and instant results.

And not only will it kill the bed bugs, but also its eggs.

2. Versatile And Easy To Apply On Different Surfaces

There is nothing easier than applying this product. No mixing, no safety precaution, Blah! Blah!! Blah!!!

Just shake and apply straight away.

Another reason you need the kills bed bugs is that it is SO versatile and can be applied on different surfaces without a single stain, be it chairs, mattresses, drapes, curtains, sofas, carpets, etc.

More importantly, the JT Eaton Kills Bed Bugs Plus is a water-based aerosol spray that uses no harsh chemical mix.

JT Eaton went for a more eco-friendly approach, using a non-toxic solution that is friendly to families and pets.

4. Very Affordable

Despite the effectiveness of this product, it comes at a discount compared to most professional aerosols.

It is why many customers are switching to Kills Bed Bugs Plus. It is such a great value for money.

You can fumigate your entire household instead of paying $250 to $675 to hire a Pest Management Professional, with as little as $14.95 per can.

Consequences Of Not Using A Kills Bed Bugs Plus

Of course the JT Eaton Kills Bed Bugs Plus isn’t the only product out there that can get the job done.

But there isn’t much bed bug killer that is as effective as it is, or is there

So why gamble with other unknown products or Bed Bug Treatments that aren’t as good or detrimental as the carbamate insecticide propoxur?

Bed bugs are prolific breeders. That means a tiny infestation (if left untreated or not treated properly) can quickly intensify into a more significant problem that is more challenging to eradicate.

And if the spread worsens to other rooms, furniture, and neighboring units, it becomes a health hazard.

Yeah, you heard that right!

Bed bugs might not necessarily spread diseases, but they are nocturnal and feed on blood, and their bite can cause allergic reactions.

Plus, prolonged infestation in your bed will result in sleep disturbance and insomnia.

So why not get JT Eaton Kills Bed Bugs Plus and save yourself the stress?

Frequently Asked Questions

What Temperature Kills Bed Bugs Permanently?

The high temperature of steam at 122°F (50°C) to 212°F (100°C) upward will immediately kill the bed bug and its egg.

It is delusive to think you can prevent bugs by using an air conditioner below 75° -that they won’t survive in cold temperatures.

It is even counter-intuitive. In sultry weather, bugs are more likely to seek a cooler environment. They might find your home comforting.

What Is The Strongest Bed Bug Killer

Aside from Kills Bed Bugs Plus, there are abundant Insecticides on the market –each with varying effectiveness based on the severity of the infestation and the types of surface treated.

But if we should call on the very best on what they do, you have quite a limited list:

· Ortho Home Defense Max Bed Bug Killer (Best Overall)

· EcoVenger Bed Bug Killer (Best Budget)

· Harris Bed Bug Killer (Best Spot Treatment)

· Rockwell CimeXa Insecticide Dust (Best for Baseboards)

· Harris Bed Bug Killer (Best for Large Spaces)

· Say Bye Bugs Bed Bug Exterminator (Best for Upholstery)

· Eco Defense Bed Bug Killer (Best Eco-Friendly)

· Bedlam Plus (Best Fast Acting)

· MDX Concepts Bed Bug Killer (Best Smelling)

You can get these products on online stores like Amazon, Walmart, and whatnot—or any supermarket.

Does Salt Get Rid Of Bed Bugs?

Salts (particularly table salt) are one of those lame approaches to getting rid of bed bugs.

And while it is perceived as more of a natural remedy, eliminating these pests isn’t a reliable option.

No doubt, upon contact, it will dehydrate and kill the bugs. However, it is ineffective at getting to the bugs in cracks and crevices spaces.

How Can You Use Kills Bed Bugs Plus Effectively?

Kills Bed Bugs Plus are pretty straightforward products to use. Just shake and press on the cap to shoot the liquid out, aiming at the infestation spot.

After spraying, remove the mild and inoffensive odor before using the space.

There is absolutely nothing to complicate using this product.

However, reading and following what is written on the product label is imperative to ensure safe and effective usage.

But we recommend reading through the label on the can.

What Smells Prevent Bed Bugs?

Certain smells are offensive to bed bugs; you can use that as a deterrent.

These smells are believed to have repellent properties against bugs; one such invigorating smell is the scent of fresh mint, tea tree oil, lavender, and lemon juice.

Bed bugs might hate these distinctive scents and retreat when perceived, but they are not foolproof in controlling infestations.

Moreover, it doesn’t kill them or their eggs. So they will bounce back.

Conclusion

So that is why you need Kills Bed Bugs Plus –for heavy infestations.

Many homeowners are enjoying a bed bug-free home and peaceful nights using this product. The testimonials say it all.

And I’ve never seen a negative review on the effectiveness of the Kills Bed Bugs. Maybe there isn’t anything negative to say.

You have Black mold behind baseboard?!

Damn! That is an eyesore and shouldn’t be entertained in your house.

This is what you MUST do:

Rush to a nearby store for a mild detergent or biodegradable mold spray. Get a clean cloth or paper towel too.

Wet it with the solution and clean off the surface mold. It should come right off.

Oh! It didn’t?

Well, that is because you are dealing with an active black mold, not a superficial or surface mold. (I will explain more on this)

But this is what the media fails to tell you.

What To Know About Black Mold Behind Baseboard

Most homeowners often call in a panic, “Oh, I have Black Mold!” when they see one.

That is because there is a myth it produces mycotoxins that is extremely dangerous to your health.

Later you can read about the health effects from Healthline. But you will be surprised by the truth.

For us, it simply ruining our houses’ curb appeal. Not the mention the ridiculously musty smell these fungi give off that worsens the longer it sits wet.

And since they are contagious, you need to understand this fungus to obliterate them.

They are most common in bathrooms. But you can also see them in damp basements, laundry rooms, and kitchens.

They love such sneaky areas because they provide them with three things:

Water

A humidity of 60% and above

A nutrient (wood, drywall, etc.)

…And with a certain amount of darkness makes the ideal breeding ground.

Eliminate these sources, and they won’t have any reason for growth.

But how can I effectively do this? It is medicine after death. I already have black mold behind my baseboard; what can I do?

No need for nerves. I will show you how (in a minute).

But if you notice mold has colonized your baseboards, it results from these sources.

And since it is a black mold, it is likely an active mold because active mold is often black.

Unlike superficial mold or surface mold that comes in different colors and is easily wiped off the baseboards, active mold growth tends to be inside out.

And 9 out of 10 times, the infected area requires replacement.

We will consider all the possible angles…But one thing is certain: you are SURE leaving this page with a solution.

How To Remove Black Mold Behind Baseboard

Black mold grows behind the baseboard because the board atop the drywall denies the walls air and light, which causes it to retain water.

And without a dehumidifier, the walls stay wet for an extended period. When neglected for weeks or months, black mold can thrive.

Remove the baseboard and use a mild detergent or biodegradable mold to clean the affected area. Rinse and let it dry.

Replace the area with a new baseboard.

But black mold behind the baseboard, sometimes, requires more than just that –especially if it is the cause of extensive water damage.

Call in a mold remediation professional. You might be dealing with mold, leaks, and other recurring causes.

How To Prevent Black Mold Behind Baseboard

1. Keep Humidity Low

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

So your primary focus is on what black molds can’t do without. And that is moisture.

Once you keep moisture under control, you have won the battle.

If you can tame the humidity level below 60-65%, the chance of mold infestation will be slim.

Whether dehumidifiers or air conditioners, get your home a device that keeps humidity in check.

2. Caulk Your Windows

Caulking your windows at least twice yearly also helps since they deteriorate over time, causing little cracks where water sips in.

Whenever this happens, the water gets inside the wall. You might not notice anything at the moment. But in the long run, it results in water damage behind the baseboards.

3. Painting The Exterior Of Your Home

YES, painting the exterior of your home actually waterproofs it.

A faded exterior is more prone to cracking, which allows water to wicker the building envelope. Leave it long enough, and you will see overnight mold and mildew.

Hence, adding a fresh lick of exterior paint helps fight against mold growth.

4. Moving Sprinklers Away From The Home

For those who seek consistent lawn hydration, ensure the sprinklers are distant from the house.

You don’t want water hitting the home, finding ways through little creaks in the concrete, or soaking up the woods.

5. Install Gutters Or Other Drainage System

Good drainage system channels water away from your home.

It doesn’t matter where you live; if you don’t have this, it creates an atmosphere where mold can thrive.

Conclusion

Look:

I’m not a big fan of performing do-it-yourself mold removal, especially for areas larger than 10 square feet.

The mold remediation should be conducted by a specialist or a licensed contractor with only expertise in mold abatement.

Removal of excessive mold growth is severe. It is not a thing for DIY or handyman.

There is a whole school for mold removal. And people have to spend countless hours learning and taking training classes to attain the certificate.

So there is a lot you don’t know. Your little internet reads aren’t enough.

But most professionals often refer to these two sources for the proper procedure:

New York City Department of Health Guidelines on Assessment and Remediation of Fungi in Indoor Environments,

The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certificate (IICRC) S520

Just in case…

Termites have and will ALWAYS be a major concern for homeowners, especially for those who live in wooden houses.

That is because you all have something they want: that delicious, crispy wood.

But whether it is safe or not to live in a house with termites is something most of us take for a cruise.

You probably might less concern since their bites isn’t as painful, don’t carry harmful diseases, and they could live under the radar — nesting in your home’s structure —and you’ve NEVER crossed paths.

What you don’t know is:

Constant exposure to termite infection can result in allergic reactions, and sometimes provokes asthma attacks.

And that is just the tip of the iceberg. I will fill you in below.

I Saw One Termite In My House…And Guess What?

The second encounter was a colony ripping off my baseboards.

Let me get this one off your chest:

Nothing is safe with pests!

Ahem! Hear me loud and clear. Whether with ants, cockroaches, flies, spiders, or mosquitos.

These nuisances will bug you out of your sleep and make your life a living hell during the day.

Personally…I don’t like termites.

Their smell reminds me of the musty odor of mildew and mold.

And not to mention the thousands of dollars in property damage they caused me.

I would do anything, even to blast a crater in their racial memory so deep that they won’t come within a thousand klick of my home EVER again.

So Is It Safe To Live In A House With Termites?

Absolutely not!

There isn’t a single benefit of living with termites in your home. If there is, please comment below. I would be curious to know.

However, the ONLY usefulness is that they help in the wild, as they break down dead trees, which supplies nutrients to replenish the soil.

In homes, they are nothing but savages.

So a sign of termite infestation shouldn’t be taken lightly because your home structure will soon be on the verge of collapse.

These termites will destroy your home by eating through your wood and wood products. As they do this, they trigger mold and mildew that release spores into the air.

And thanks to the heating or ventilation system, these irritating particles can get airborne.

This spread (even the dust from termite nests) might aggravate allergies or asthma.

Considering they can live up to two years –for the workers and soldiers– while the queen termites span over a decade, it is going to be a long party.

I veered toward a natural DIY solution when I couldn’t afford the average termite treatment priced at around $575 –at that time.

And it worked miraculously well after much trial and error.

I learned to forge a formidable weapon equally effective as most liquid termiticides. And that was a mix of vinegar and lemon juice.

YEAH, I know….it sounds like a juicing recipe.

But as appetizing as it sounds, this solution can soak into any termite-damaged area and clear cracks of termites.

Moreover, it is a SAFER acidic spray than boric acid. Just squeeze out the juice of two lemons mixed with half a cup of vinegar.

You can also capitalize on smells termites hate. I’m talking about the robust smell of geranium, cedarwood, and tea tree oil.

Cinnamon, clove bud, and garlic oils also serve as deterrents for termites.

Check out: What Do Termite Holes Look Like?

What Attracts Termites To Your House?

People say that “swarming” (the mating season) is when termite invades a home.

Hmmm! Not necessarily.

Your woods are enough reason for an invitation.

Depending on the species, termites are drawn into a home by cracks, wood in the house foundation, and moisture.

They will feast on any cellulose material, and that also includes:

Plants.

Carpet.

Insulation.

Cardboard.

Sheetrock paper.

Fabric.

Animal feces.

Now you know they are even crazier than you thought. Lol.

If My Neighbor Has Termites, What Should I Do?

My termite-home infestation all started with my Neighbor’s.

I didn’t want to believe it at first.

But they say Termite colony expansion is slow. However, migration is never a problem if the situation requires it.

Henry (a friend next door) was at least the only one I knew who struggled with termite infestation.

I droved home from work one Saturday and noticed Henry using termite-repellant products.

It wasn’t until a fortnight before I saw a termite soldier in my house.

The termites had successfully migrated to a non-threaten area. Sadly, it was my crib.

Henry would have effectively killed the termites with ZERO escape risk had he scheduled for professional termite service.

So note neighboring termites are contagious. Prepare for a breach!

I’d advise installing termite-repellant products around your home to create an invisible barrier they won’t cross.

And to add to your preventive measures, also read: Where Do Termites Come From?

Stay safe, cheers!

I would also love to know your thought on whether is it safe to live in a house with termites.

If you have a bed bug infestation on your walls, you might have thought of adding a fresh lick of paint. But does painting the walls help get rid of bed bugs?

Yeah! It seems logical to kill bugs, considering most paints have a strong smell and toxic ingredients.

So the fumes and harsh substances might do the job.

But let me give you a reality check:

No doubt bugs find the smell of fresh paint offensive. It can drive them away —but only TEMPORARILY. However, it WON’T kill them.

And once the robust odor has dialed down, they will continue their business.

So NO! Painting the walls to remove bed bugs is not an option —a permanent solution. And I will explain why below.

Does Painting The Walls Help Get Rid Of Bed Bugs?

While some people believe that painting can suffocate and kill bed bugs, no evidence supports this claim.

You don’t know that bed bugs can survive for long periods without air.

However, there are many things you need to know about painting your walls when dealing with bedbugs.

Painting your walls with regular paint won’t help you eliminate bed bugs. Even though the bugs may leave the area for a while, they will return and seek shelter in any cracks or crevices on your walls once the paint dries.

Therefore, re-apply paint periodically to ensure that bed bugs do not return to your home.

FAQs On Does Painting The Walls Help Get Rid Of Bed Bugs?

Can Bed Bugs Live In The Wall?

Absolutely! Bed bugs can HIDE and LIVE in your walls. They infest more than just your mattress and carpet.

Not just that, these annoying creatures can fit themselves through tiny cracks and make their way into walls, where they frequently look for sanctuary.

Therefore, it is easy for them to spread throughout your house because they can enter your walls through openings in the floor or walls.

Finally, bed bugs can establish themselves in your home’s kitchen, living room, basement, and bedroom.

HEADS-UP!

You may be confusing termite holes for bed bugs. However, if you can’t tell them apart, you should read our article on>>>What Do Termite Holes Look Like?

Can Bed Bugs Climb Painted Walls?

After the paint has dried and its odor has faded, bed bugs can climb painted walls using their sharp claws to keep from slipping.

Despite their small and lightweight size, they can climb with their strong legs.

This means that even if your walls have been painted, bed bugs may still be able to access other parts of your home by scaling the walls.

How Do Bed Bugs Climb Walls?

It’s truly remarkable to watch bed bugs climb up walls quickly. How do they do it? Well, it turns out that the secret lies in the walls themselves.

Even though we can’t see them, most walls have microscopic indents that bed bugs can use to gain a foothold.

By leveraging these tiny grooves, bed bugs can climb vertically up walls that would be impossible for most other creatures. It’s a feat that defies the laws of gravity, and it’s one that never ceases to amaze.

How Long Can Bed Bugs Live In My Walls?

Since nothing will kill bed bugs in these spaces, they may be able to live their entire lives inside cracked walls.

They can still walk outside and feed on human hosts even when dwelling inside the walls.

However, bed bugs won’t be able to survive for their entire lives in a wall that has been sealed off because they won’t have access to a host.

Even after the gaps are covered, these bugs may live for up to four months without food so they may stay inside your walls for a while.

Conclusion

So does painting the walls help get rid of bed bugs?

It could ONLY put them away for a while. I’d say it is more of a quick fix.

These tiny pests can easily hide in places without paint, and covering up the problem will not solve it.

Instead, contacting a pest control professional with the knowledge, expertise, and tools to help you eliminate the problem and prevent it from recurring is best.

You can regain control of your home and enjoy a peaceful, bed-bug-free environment by taking swift and effective action.

You mmight not know this, but: a Pine Sol a day keeps ants away!

Ants are hyper-sensitive to Pine Sol’s robust aroma because they are made with natural pine essential oil and other powerful cleaning agents.

They find it very disturbing and won’t dare come anywhere close.

Of course, there are other ant repellents or killers that are far more effective. Hence, if you have Pine Sol handy, it will still get the job done.

But there is more to know about this cleaning staple. Keep reading…

Does Pine Sol Keep Ants Away?

We now know Pine Sol is more than just a great cleaning staple that meets your household needs. It is also capable of keeping ants at bay.

So if you want these pesky bugs to vacate your space, you can use a little splash of pine sol. This will set the entire colony running, as well as eliminate some.

As I said, there are plenty of natural ant repellents, especially essential oils. You can use the following:

Peppermint Essential Oil

Orange Essential Oil

Tea Tree Essential Oil

Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Lavender Essential Oil

Cinnamon Essential Oil

Clove Essential oil

Cedarwood Essential Oil

Citronella Essential Oil

Since these oils are antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal, they all make excellent natural disinfectants and bug repellents.

But let’s not veer to other solutions. Let’s stick with the household cleaners, okay?

So aside Pine Sol, what other cleaner keeps ants away?

Well, you can bank on a 50/50 mixture of bleach and water, 409 multipurpose cleaner, and some Comet powder.

Comet appears to be the most effective when tested on an ant parade, only sparing fewer ants. Second in line is Pine Sol; third goes to the bleach/water and 409 cleaner.

Also Read: Can You Mix Pine Sol And Bleach?

So does Pine Sol keep ants away? 100% YES!

But how much do you know about this cleaner besides being the best-selling all-purpose cleaning product?

Let’s find out!

4 Unexpected Uses Of Pine Sol

The fragrance and germ-free results are the reward for cleaning with Pine Sol.

It smells like walking through a pine forest every time you clean. It is why most people have a big nostalgia for it.

But that is not the reason why it cleans so well. It is made with REAL Pine essential oil, water, alcohol solvent with antibacterial properties, powerful cleaning agents, Isopropyl, and Xanthan gum.

All of these ingredients made it stretch beyond regular uses. For instance:

1. Pine Sol Kills Coronavirus

This is not a made-up story. Pine Sol can actually kill Coronavirus.

It was added to EPA’s list of approved killers for Coronavirus on hard non-porous surfaces. You can confirm it at CNN or prnewswire.

Yes, this famous household cleaner was tested and showed results it could eliminate the virus in just 10 minutes.

2. It Kills 99.9% Of Germs

Pine Sol is SO good at killing germs.

This is why clean freaks and germaphobes keep singing glory to this product. You just have to ensure you get the Original Pine Sol that says “kills 99.9% of Germs.”

WARNING!!! The other scents aren’t the same. DO NOT purchase the Pine Glow that looks precisely like Pine Sol. They won’t kill germs effectively, let alone Covid.

To use the Pine Sol full strength, apply it with a clean sponge or cloth on the surface. Wet it and let it stand for 10 minutes, and then rinse it off.

3. Keeps Flies Away

Pine Sol doesn’t just clean floors. Some horse owners swear by it for flies. They use it to keep their horse fly free.

How does it work?

Pine Sol contains pine oil, which flies find offensive. However, it shouldn’t be used directly from the bottle—pour some into a spray bottle first and dilute it with water when using Pine-Sol for fly control.

Make it a fly-repellent mix by mixing one cup of water, vinegar, and a third cup of original scent pine sol. Then spray where needed.

4. Pine Sol Is Wasp Killer

If you have a problem with wasps, hornets, yellow jackets, or bees, pine sol can spare you from their painful stings.

Just don’t use it on honeybees because we need them to help pollinate the food plants in our garden.

You have to use the spray full strength as the insecticide. Mix 80% pine sol to 20% and spray it in your desired areas.

5. It Keeps unwanted Animals Away

If your garden has a raccoon or rodents problem, mix a 50/50 Pine Sol and water, then spray.

The Pine-Sol smell is repulsive to most of these animals, so it will scare them away.

Conclusion

Think of pine sol as a BB gun loaded with a nice smelling shot (scent molecules) which, unlike other harsh cleaners, are meant to be captured and detected by our scent receptors.

Although the reason why has to do with the cleaning agent’s main ingredient: pine oil.

Ultimately, if you are trying to get rid of ants, there are some other options that you can try before resorting to Pine Sol.

If you noticed a trail of these silent invaders in or around your property, you might question, ‘where do termites come from?’

Termite forage on the ground like ants, using underground tunnels to get into your home. The subterranean termites are experts at this since they live in the soil.

You also have the dry-wood termites that are dry wood inhabitants. They relish the forests, suburban developments, and your furniture.

The idea is that soil is around you, and woody structure is in your home. Thus, it is almost inevitable not to experience a termite encounter, especially with the conehead species.

They are ferocious and can cause significant damage to wooden structures and furniture. But on this page, we provide you with valuable information to help you protect your home from termite infestations.

Where Do Termites Come From? (Invasion & Remedy)

Credits: Lertwit Sasipreyajun/ShutterStock

This is a common question among homeowners concerned about the possibility of a termite infestation in their homes.

However, termites can come from various places, and knowing the signs of an infestation can help you identify and treat the problem early.

What Are The Causes Of Termites?

However, you need to understand that, like every other organism, termites are attracted to homes by food, water, and shelter.

Whenever termites can gain easy access to these factors, it becomes easy for them to settle and reproduce.

But what are the causes of termite incursion?

First, you must understand that each insect has its preferred food choice, like every other living organism. These foods include; wood, paper, and even soil.

Another factor you need to consider is warm, dark, and damp environments to thrive. They are found in garages or piles of firewood outside your home.

That said, termites can also be attracted to moisture. Poor drainages from gutters and downspouts can cause damp soil making your environment a perfect habitat for them.

So, you must ensure a dry and well-ventilated environment to deter them from gaining residence.

Hence, taking precautionary measures will help you avoid attracting termites to your home and prevent costly damage to your property.

In addition, regular inspections and treatments by a licensed pest control professional can also help to detect and prevent termites from infecting our homes.

Oh yes, they can!

Mud tunnels termites are a species of subterranean termites.

This group of termites stays underground as colonies and builds mud tubes that provide them access to above-ground hunting.

Thus, they can travel through the soil to find food sources, such as fallen trees or wooden structures in contact with the soil.

They will likely invade your home through the ground to the walls and foundation.

What Causes Termites In The House?

Termites are usually attracted to our homes by a lot of factors. However, the primary factor is water.

They require a source of moisture to survive, so any area of the house with excess moisture or water damage, such as leaky pipes or roofs, can attract termites.

In addition, another essential source of food for termites is wood. Therefore, any wooden structures or items in the house, including furniture, flooring, and walls, can attract them.

Above all, you must maintain a dry and well-ventilated environment to scare them away.

7 Preventive Measures For Termite Infestation

The key to preventing termites from infesting your home is being proactive.

Below are some of the easiest yet most effective ways to prevent this silent invader. :

Remove any sources of moisture around your home, such as leaking pipes or clogged gutters.

Store firewood and lumber away from your home and elevate off the ground.

Seal any cracks or gaps in your foundation, walls, and roof.

Ensure proper ventilation in your attic, crawl space, and other home areas.

Use termite-resistant building materials when constructing or renovating your home.

Have regular termite inspections performed by a professional pest control company?

Avoid using untreated wood in areas in contact with soil, such as garden beds or fence posts.

Conclusion

In conclusion, knowing what attracts them can help you take necessary precautions to prevent infestations and protect your home.

Regular inspections, proper maintenance of wood structures, and minimizing moisture sources are essential steps to keeping termites at bay.

You’ve just seen termite holes on your wooden structure, does that mean a termite raiding party has invaded your home?

Likely!

They always leave trails behind —like their holes and sawdust. But do you have any idea what do termite holes look like?

For all I know, you could be confusing it with ants’. And that is okay.

However, termite holes are round, not more than ⅛ an inch, or even smaller in most cases.

And you will rarely see them uncovered—unless it’s the source of the colony after or during the swarm takes place. It is always covered with brown, cement-like material.

I’ll shed more light on this and give you some DIY techniques to successfully kick off termites from your home, even though it’ll be best to call in a trustworthy exterminator.

What Do Termite Holes Look Like?

Credits: wk1003mike/ShutterStock

I had a close friend who worked in a professional pest control company. His response was alarming when I asked him what his advice was about termite holes and infestation.

He gulped, “if you notice termite holes in or around your property, take immediate action. These tiny soldiers are notoriously known for causing extensive damage that isn’t obvious to the naked eye until their mission is fully accomplished.”

And according to Orkin, ignoring termite holes can lead to costly repairs down the line, as homeowners across the country already spend a whopping $5 billion yearly on termite control and repair.

But how can you possibly address this issue when you are clueless about what termite holes look like?

For all I know, you might confuse it with ants’. And that is okay.

Here are a few indications it is a termite hole:

The holes are usually round and about ⅛ inch or smaller.

You see a paste-like material made out of frass that plugs the holes.

Termites’ holes are barely left open. They are mostly covered.

Kicked out of the woods by termites never have fewer holes. It appears in a pile.

How To Identify Termites Infestation [Signs To Look For]

Credits: plew koonyosying/Shutterstock

Knowing what termites look like and the signs of their presence are essential to identify a termite infestation.

Termites are small, pale-colored insects with straight antennae, two pairs of wings of equal size, and a broad waist.

However, reproductive termites, also known as swarmers or alates, can be dark brown or black and have long, narrow wings.

And one of the most obvious signs of termite infestation is small termite holes and circular openings in wooden surfaces. These holes are the entry points for termites as they tunnel through the wood.

Another common sign is the presence of mud tubes, which termites build to travel from the soil to the wooden structures of your home.

You may also notice termite droppings resembling small, brown pellets and discarded wings near windows, doors, and other entry points.

In addition to these visible signs, there are other indicators of a termite infestation.

These include hollow-sounding wood, buckling or blistering paint, and damaged or weakened wooden structures. You may also detect a musty or moldy odor in the affected area.

Remember, early detection is crucial to prevent extensive damage and costly repairs.

Types Of Termites

There are over 2700 species of termites in the world. That is insane!

But you’re probably not aware that not all are considered pests. There are more than 40 distinct species in the US.

Some of the main types of termites that homeowners should keep their heads up for are subterranean, dry-wood, damp-wood, Formosan, conehead, and desert termites.

1. Subterranean Termites

These termites are the most common in the States.

They live in underground colonies and build mud tubes to travel from the soil to their food source, often the wooden structures of homes.

These termites can cause extensive damage to homes and other structures.

2. Dry-wood Termites

Dry-wood Termites are notoriously known for a home invasions.

This is because they thrive in hard, dry wood furniture, roof sheathing, joists, rafters, steps, porches, decks, trim, siding, subfloor, window, doors found in or around the home.

They do not require contact with soil. Wood is all they know.

3. Damp-wood Termites

These species aren’t as popular as the dry-wood or subterranean termites. They are low-key termites who love establishing their colonies in damp or decaying woods.

They are mostly found in the Pacific Northwest and other regions with high humidity.

So if you have leaks that cause excessive moisture in your house, you have just given the damp-wood termites an invitation card.

4. Formosan Termites

Formosan termites are invasive species that arrived in the States after World War II.

They are also called “super termites” because of their crazy ability to consume wood at an alarming rate.

Formosan termites build nests in the soil and can cause significant damage to homes and other structures.

5. Conehead Termites

Conehead termites hail from the Caribbean but arrived at the shore of the United State early 2000s.

This name describes what they look like —cone-shaped, dark brown heads. The conehead species secretes a formidable pine sap-like chemical that scares off predators like lizards, ants, and other termites from a different colony.

In addition, they build nests in the soil. And with their extremely aggressive nature, they can cause widespread damage to property in no time.

6. Desert Termites

Desert Termites behave like subterranean termites because they are subspecies.

They lie deep beneath the earth to form a colony, creating mud tubes that allow them to travel safely and forage.

Also, desert termites are expected in West, and South Texas, particularly in desert regions.

They, too, fest in and out of dry wood, so they can cause significant damage to your wooden structures.

11 Best Methods That Gets Rid Of Termites

It’s important to know that each type of termite has its unique behavior, preferred habitat, and infestation characteristics.

Therefore, knowing how to eliminate each type more effectively will be worthwhile.

1. Termiticide Barriers

Termiticide barriers are a type of chemical treatment applied around a home’s foundation to create a barrier that prevents subterranean termites from entering.

These barriers kill the termites as they try to pass through the treated soil.

There are two main types: non-repellent termiticides are not detected by termites and are often used as a preventive measure.

In contrast, the repellent termiticides are detected by termites and can cause the termites to avoid treated areas, but they do not necessarily kill the termites.

2. Termite Baits

Termite baits are another type of treatment for subterranean termites. These baits are placed in the ground around the home and are designed to attract termites.

Once the termites have consumed the bait, they bring it back to the colony and distribute it among themselves and the other termites, ultimately causing the colony to perish.

In-ground and above-ground baits are the two major categories of bait.

The above-ground baits are left above ground level even though they are occasionally used with the in-ground baits buried in the ground.

3. Direct Chemicals

Direct chemicals are applied directly to areas where termites are present, such as wall voids or crawl spaces.

Chemicals are highly effective at killing termites, but be careful! They can also be hazardous to humans and pets if not used properly. Some types are:

1. Liquid Termiticides:

These are applied to the soil around the foundation or directly onto wood to control termites.

2. Foam Termiticides:

These are used to treat wall voids and other hard-to-reach areas.

4. Spot Treatment

Spot treatment involves applying a termiticide directly to the infested wood, either by injection or by drilling small holes into the wood and applying the treatment.

This method can be adequate for small, localized infestations.

Injection: A professional pest control technician will inject a termiticide directly into the wood to kill the termites.

Drilling: A technician will drill small holes into the wood and then apply a termiticide to the holes.

5. Use Of Oil

The use of oil such as neem oil can drive termites to extinction.

Neem oil has special components that make it a pesticide product.

Just apply it to the infested wood, and you will see an entire colony running helter-skelter.

It works by interfering with the termites’ hormonal balance, preventing them from feeding and reproducing.

6. Remove The Source Of Moisture

The first step in getting rid of damp-wood termites is to remove the source of moisture.

This may involve fixing leaks or other sources of water damage and ensuring that the area is well-ventilated. Without moisture, damp-wood termites will not be able to survive.

7. Use Of Chemical Treatments

Chemical treatments can also be used to get rid of damp-wood termites. A pest control professional can apply a termiticide directly to the infested wood to kill the termites.

Sometimes, a fumigation treatment may be necessary to eliminate the entire colony.

8. Beneficial Nematodes

Beneficial nematodes are tiny, parasitic worms that can be used to eliminate subterranean termites.

When released into the soil around a termite colony, they invade the termites’ bodies, causing them to die.

Beneficial nematodes are a natural and environmentally friendly way to eliminate termites.

9. Boric Acid

Boric acid is a white powder that can kill dry-wood termites. It works by dehydrating the termites and damaging their digestive systems.

To use boric acid, you can dust it onto the infested wood or inject it directly into the termite galleries.

10. Diatomaceous Earth

Diatomaceous earth has been a pesticide that has NEVER failed since the 60s.

The diatomaceous Earth ruthlessly kills termites and other insects that cross its path by penetrating and dehydrating its exoskeleton.

It is produced from a fossilized aquatic organism that has a silica exoskeleton.

Sprinkle the powder directly on the infested regions, and you’ll see them crawling out.

11. Cardboard Trap

This trick works every time you try it. It is a simple yet effective strategy for killing dry-wood termites colony.

You want to bait them with pieces of wet cardboard, stacking them like dessert. Next is to tempt them, placing them near the infested area.

They will go nuts and begin feasting on it. Once you have enough termites, you can remove the trap and set it ablaze.

How To Prevent Termites [6 Simple, Yet Effective Strategies]

It’s always wiser to prevent termites from finding your home in the first place.

Here are some practical methods for making your home less attractive to termites:

1. Check For Leaks

One of the essential steps in preventing termites is to check for leaks and water damage in and around your home.

Termites are attracted to moist environments, so any standing water or dampness can be a potential breeding ground for them.

Be sure to fix any leaks or water damage as soon as they are detected to prevent termites from being attracted to the area.

2. Keep Gutters And Pipes Clean

Gutters and pipes can also be a source of moisture that attracts termites. Keep gutters and downspouts clean and debris-free to prevent water from collecting and attracting termites.

Ensure pipes are properly sealed, and no leaks could create a damp environment.

3. Store Wood Properly

You should store wood away from your home’s foundation to prevent termites from gaining easy access.

If you must store wood near your home, keep it at least 20 feet away and elevated off the ground.

This will make it more difficult for termites to access the wood and enter your home.

4. Use Treated Wood

When renovating or doing woodwork for your home, it is best to use treated wood —especially the ones treated to resist termite infestation.

Treated wood is guaranteed termites won’t get closer to them.

5. Regular Inspections

Regular inspections of your home and property can help detect signs of termite activity early on before they can cause extensive damage.

Look for signs of termite damage, such as mud tubes, termite wings, or hollow-sounding wood. If you suspect termite activity, contact a licensed pest control professional for an inspection.

6. Professional Termite Treatment

Regular professional termite treatments can help prevent termite infestations from occurring in the first place.

A pest control professional can apply preventative treatments around your home to create a barrier against termites.

And before rounding it up, let me address this question once and for all.

When you see termite-treatment workers drilling holes into a foundation, you might be tempted to ask why they drill holes.

The answer might surprise you! (In a good way).

Why Do They Drill Holes For Termite Treatment?

Contacting a pest controller is the most effective way to deal with this menace.

And part of their procedure is drilling holes around the perimeter before injecting the chemical. This ensures a complete chemical surge that terminates that entire colony.

However, this treatment has variations depending on the requirements and type of construction. But overall, that is why drilling holes are vital.

Conclusion

So that is everything you must know about ‘what termite holes look like.’

Termites have been a serious threat to homeowners, whether it is in your garden, back, or front yard. They are ALWAYS a considerable threat.

And whether you choose to handle the situation yourself or prefer to employ a professional, there are a lot of effective termite removal methods.

Nonetheless, preventing an infestation from starting in the first place continues to be the most incredible termite control method.

Storing wood properly and scheduling regular inspections can help protect your home from the costly damage caused by termites.

Remember that prevention is always preferable to treatment!
