Anyone who has battled a flea infestation knows the struggle. And one of the biggest questions on their minds is often whether, ‘do I have to wash clean clothes after applying flea bomb?’”

It’s totally understandable to feel worried your belongings might have been contaminated and required extra cleaning.

But is it compulsory?

Many people think you need to. However, that’s not always necessary. There are ways you could flea bomb without adding to your laundry loads.

Do I Have To Wash Clean Clothes After Applying Flea Bomb?

There are two scenarios:

If your clean clothes were left exposed after a Flea Bomb, you should give them a nice wash.

Wanna know why?

Flea bomb is such an explosive pesticide that releases a fog that fills the space to eradicate fleas. This does leave residues that may have settled on contacted fabrics or surfaces during the treatment.

So washing it off not only helps keep your clothes smelling fresh but also ensures that they are safe to wear without any risk of skin irritation or chemical exposure.

Of course it isn’t mandatory!

In my view, it is a prudent measure, especially in cases of severe infestations or if you have sensitive skin.

Better still you can save yourself the hassle by simply wrapping the pristine clothes pre-flea bomb, as opposed to washing them after application —scenario number 2.

I will throw more light on this on the latter stage of this article.

Having addressed the question of washing clothes, let’s delve into other crucial details that can help you effectively use a flea bomb to combat this infestation.

Using Baking Soda To Kill Flea

Credits: FotoHelin/Shutterstock

I want to get this one out of the way first:

The use of baking soda is NOT an option.

Why?

I don’t find it an effective solution for eradicating fleas, especially in extreme cases.

Nevertheless, people would prefer this approach because it is an eco-friendly and non-toxic method that can still kill fleas.

I hope you are prepared to arm yourself with patience because baking soda needs at least 24 hours to work its magic.

Also you will have to sprinkle it in and around the infested areas —and only upon contact— will it zap those fleas to death.

So what would you do?

Let me guess: moisturize your infected pet with some jar of baking soda, and then what? Let it sit for 24 hours?

Hell no!

I would rather have a flea bomb!

It is the best way to declare war on these pesky blood-suckers and stop this endless circle of torment.

How To Apply Flea Bombs Effectively And Safely

I suppose you are fed up to the teeth of these tiny vampires feasting on your blood and leaving behind an army of itchy, red rebellions on your/pet’s skin.

… this is something I can relate to.

Each bite feels like a microscopic mosquito that has decided to turn your body into a personal buffet.

The itching is maddening, a constant, irritating drumbeat that drives you to distraction. It’s as if your skin has been invaded by an invisible enemy, launching a full-scale assault on your sanity.

NO one should condone this madness!!!

Which is why I have prepared a comprehensive step-by-step guide on how to perform a SAFE and strategic flea bombing.

1. Preparation Is Everything

Don’t rush into it!

You can’t just grab a flea bomb and spray it around like crazy. It’s like trying to put out a fire with a water gun – you need the right tools and strategy.

There are essential steps you’ll need to take first:

1. Figure Out How Much Ground You’ll Need To Cover

Just like choosing the right paint for your walls, selecting the right flea bomb depends on the size of the area you need to cover.

And while one bomb per room is often enough, you might be able to get away with fewer if you strategically place them in hallways with the room doors open.

You will most likely get this Intel on the product label. So ALWAYS read the instructions before purchase.

2. Schedule For Flea Bomb When Everyone Is Away.

Pick a day and time that works for everyone in the family, including your pets.

This is due to the fact that Flea bombs contain chemicals that can be detrimental to your health.

Trust me, you don’t want anyone in there inhaling this toxic mist.

The label also stated how long you will be out for. So make sure you check that.

3. Close The Windows, Open The Doors And Drawers Of The Infected Rooms.

Declutter those areas providing hidden heavens for fleas. You want to let this fog access as many infested areas as possible.

While doing so, it is important to remove any eating utensils, food, small appliances, and crockery.

It will be much easier that way than cleaning them after the flea bomb.

Cover up any valuable accessories, your tables, countertops, and electronics with sheets or plastic tarps to avoid hearing stories that touch the heart.

And lastly, switch off the lights and disconnect any non removable electrical devices. Flea bombs can be a fire hazard.

2. Deploy The Bomb!!!

Most homeowners vacuum and clean their house prior to the treatment.

Is it really that necessary?

I don’t see the need for it. If anything, I would do so afterwards.

However, what I would suggest is doing your dirty laundry and bagging the clothes to avoid exposure.

Next is to detonate the area!

1. Position The Flea Bombs On Plastic Bags In The Targeted Area And Activate

If you are flea bombing multiple rooms, you might want to activate the ones in the furthest rooms and work up your way to the nearest exit .

That way, you could avoid extensive exposure.

2. Time To Play A Cleaner: Operation To Wash The Entire House

After the mist must have cleared, certainly chemical residues from this pesticide will sit tightly on the carpet, doormats, furniture, and other exposed surfaces.

Having said that, you should avoid making direct contact with any of these exposed items without giving them a proper wash.

Put on a pair of gloves and vacuum the detonated areas.

Remove beddings, curtains, blankets, pillows, and even stuffed toys and wash them.

NOTE: it is crucial to wash and dry beddings according to the flea bombs’ instructions.

You also want to clean the countertops in the kitchen and bathroom areas with your regular cleanser to remove any pesticides that settled on it during flea bombing.

Pay attention to your pet’s food bowl too. Wash it thoroughly with mild soap and warm water. After washing, dry it with a towel.

Your baby’s toys are also one to keep an eye on.

Children tend to put their toys in their mouths after picking them up from the ground. Therefore, wash them in a basin with mild soap and water. Rinse them and dry them.

Pro Tip: Now that you know your clothes need a thorough wash after flea bombing, let’s talk detergent—because not all soaps are created equal.

The right detergent doesn’t just rinse away pesticide residue; it obliterates it while keeping your fabrics soft and fresh. Don’t settle for mediocre cleaning power when you’re dealing with chemical residues.

Whether you’re removing pesticide residue from flea bombs or tackling stubborn latex paint stains, Our guide breaks down the best laundry detergents that deliver real results, not empty promises

How To Treat Fleas Attack On your Pets

Credits: kobkik/Shutterstock

While you are away from the home it is important to remove fleas from your pet so they do not bring them back in as soon as you return.

Ask your veterinarian about pills that contain nitenpyram —as these are effective for killing any adult fleas on your pet.

After application, give them a nice bath with a flea controlling shampoo. And that is it!

The Best Pest Control Company To Treat Fleas

Dealing with fleas can be a lot to handle. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, surely you might prefer to have someone else take care of the pesticide application.

There are many options out there, but the two professional exterminators that will ALWAYS come through for you are: Terminix and Orkin.

Termini has over 90 years of experience exterminating pests. They also offer nationwide service with free retreatment if the pests return.

Orkin, on the other hand, specializes in treating 20 types of pests (with fleas included), and offers instant online quotes, with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Wrapping Up

But how do you know you have fleas at home?

It would be easier if you had a pet around. Pets are susceptible to flea attacks. But don’t be fooled into thinking you’re safe from fleas just because you don’t have one.

Your home could still be their next venue, only they are easily spotted on pets.

So what are the telltale signs?

Fleas usually stick on dogs’ fur. They feast on their skin, take a piss, and breed there.

If you see your dog or car scratch or lick their body intensely, they could be suffering from Flea bites.

Check their underbelly, armpits, inner thighs, ears, or ears. Fleas can also be setting up camp in your carpets, furniture, and your pet’s favorite hangouts.
